Recreational swimming is offered Monday through Thursday for ALL campers. Swimming is always optional. Small group activities are offered to those children who choose not to swim.

We swim ON SITE at the Woodside High School swimming pool.

There are two certified lifeguards on duty each day. Additionally, camp staff are either watching from the deck or in the water playing with and supervising the campers. There is approximately 1 staff member per each 7 campers at the pool.

All campers who wish to use the deep end of the pool will be required to take a very simple swim test their first day at the pool. They will be asked, one at a time, to swim the width of the shallow end of the pool using any stroke they desire.
Camp staff and lifeguards are in the pool during the test to grab any camper who might flounder. Very weak swimmers will be identified and will be restricted to a shallow area reserved for them.
If you know that your child will not be able to pass this test please notify us in advance by adding a note on the registration form. We can save your child from the anxiety and possible embarassment of the test and pre-place them into our shallow area reserved for weak swimmers.

Campers who are unable to swim or who are weak swimmers are identified with neon wrist bands and restricted to the shallow area of the pool. There is a lifeguard watching that area as well as an appropriate number of camp staff in the water. Additionally, flotation devices such as kickboards and "noodles" are available. We use a lane line to delineate that area and the campers can also use that line to hold onto if necessary.
The campers who use this area always have a great time there. We average approximately 50 campers at a time in the water. Exclusive use of the pool. No outside groups or persons will be sharing the pool with us.

Some very basic instruction is offered to the weak/non-swimmers. However, swimming is primarily recreational. The instruction we provide should not be considered a replacement for professional lessons.

The pool deck has an ample number of changing tents where each camper can change privately.
